The Planning Inspectorate

The Planning Inspectorate is unique to many other government organisations in that just under half of their workforce is made up of Planning Inspectors.

Because of their geographical spread, Inspectors main source of communication with their wider team was via phone and email only.

When rolling out Office 365 we took the advantage of running online training sessions via Microsoft Teams to demonstrate how powerful this can be when your workforce is spread across the country.

Jo is an Inspector working on an infrastructure project and enrolled onto a webinar on collaboration. The following day Jo had to attend a hearing with colleagues after which they would ordinarily go back to the office and write up their notes into a formal document. Having attended the Hable run session on collaboration Jo was able to share a document with her colleagues who in turn could write their notes straight into the document during the hearing.

If you or your colleagues need to do this just once a week then getting back just one afternoon could give you back up to 135hrs which is nearly 17 working days a year!

Microsoft recently commissioned Forrester Consulting to survey over 260 customers using Teams and found that the cost savings were the key factor in the adoption of Teams and estimate that a 5000 user organisation had a net benefit in the region of £20 million over a three-year period.
