At Hable, we’re passionate about helping customers to be the best they can be, to work in new ways and collaborate better than ever. We believe that when you’ve got the right tools, and the right support – that’s when the real magic happens.
Hable & Alsager School
In 2015 we first worked with Alsager School to migrate them onto Office 365 – this enabled them save money on IT infrastructure and empower pupils and staff to work in new ways.
Prior to the Office365 migration, Alsager had never heard of Microsoft Sway, but with the support of Hable and working together with the Alsager Partnership and Microsoft, their innovative community project is raising awareness of Dementia and positively impacting the lives of individuals and families affected by the condition.
Hable wanted to share the brilliant work Alsager School have done, with the world – but we also wanted to inspire other schools on how they can run their own Sway Life Stories project. So, we have worked with Lee Whitmarsh (Alsager School)… to create a new digital hub for the Project (www.swaylifestories.com)
The results have been incredible, for the users and families, their carers but even the students involved. The award winning project links in to Alsager’s work to become the first Dementia Friendly Town in East Cheshire, and they’re even up for a UK Education Parliamentary Award!
“In all the 35 years that I have been teaching never have I seen a project that proves to connect education to the local community in quite the same meaningful and rich way that the Dementia Sway project has done here in Alsager. The Sway Project has captivated everything that all educators strive to achieve for the students in their care, in developing their skills technically, emotionally and creatively”. – Neil Williams, Assistant Headteacher
What are Sway Life Stories?
Students and Staff from Alsager School ran a series of Art workshops with families and individuals living with dementia, using this information they created a digital interactive story of their lives.
Combining imagery, artwork, sound and video, individuals can use touch screen to move forwards and backwards and move through the content. The interactive nature of Sway stories means users can stop at any time on key moments allowing for different attention spans and specific interests of an individual on a specific day.
“I especially loved seeing the reactions on the couples faces, once the project had finished, and we presented the finished project to them. It was an inspirational and spectacular experience” – Lucy, Student
The new digital hub for the Project that Hable helped to create showcases the work created by the students for the families they worked with. From here they can share, edit and continue to build on their stories, and inspire others to create their own stories too. Its accessible from any mobile/internet connected device – and its free!
We’ve been championing the project from the beginning and we’re incredibly proud of what Lee and the students have achieved.
